I’ve discovered these easy wellness habits that are so simple to start, and have the potential to add so much to the quality and fullness of your life. They have helped me to feel centered, relaxed, and peaceful. If you are looking for ways to do this, I will share them with you here, because they are too good to not share. I also want you to enjoy a healthier mind, body, and spirit!
1. Journaling
There is something powerful and healing about writing out your thoughts, dreams, goals, and affirmations. I was not always into journaling, or aware of its benefits. I didn’t really discover it and start implementing it as a wellness habit until later in my life. It is safe to say that now I almost cannot go a day without writing down an encouraging thought or lesson for the day, or maybe something that God showed me that day. If you do not know God, I hope you get to know Him, because a life with God is an adventure worth being on!
I found this cute journal on Amazon and thought it was so perfect for the season of life I am currently in. I am 42 years old, and I feel like I have just started on my life journey. I truly feel that my future will be bright and full of so many adventures and risks to take! There are several journal options available on Amazon, and I will link two more options: a navy blue journal and another gray journal, both with the cutest encouraging messages on the front.
If you prefer to do your shopping in the stores, there are really cute journals at TJ Maxx, Ross, and Target. These three journals are ones I own and that is why I recommend them, but I just wanted to provide a few in store options too in case you prefer to shop in the store. Journaling is a wellness habit that provides me with a way to get out all of my thoughts, revelations, dreams, and desires. I think God is always speaking to us, and He wants us to get our thoughts on paper, so we can be encouraged and have a clear picture of where we have been and where we want to go. Another really neat thing about journaling is that you can always reflect back on your earlier journal entries to see how far you have come.
Additionally, I have a separate prayer journal where I write down my prayers, read back through it maybe every week or so, or longer, and if God answered a prayer, I write when He answered it and how He answered it. Seeing how God has answered my prayers and how far He has brought me, is also such an encouraging thing to be reminded of. Especially if you are walking through something difficult, being able to see how God brought me through the last time, reminds me that He will do it again.
I hope this will encourage you to begin your journaling adventure and wellness habit. You won’t regret it, I promise!
2. Heart Math/Inner Balance Breathing Device
This Heart Math breathing device comes with an app for your iPhone that guides you through a breathing exercise. I would recommend clicking the links above and reading about all of the benefits from their website. Here is some information from their website to help you understand what this device is good for:
- “Learn how to synchronize your heart, mind, and body to reset your composure and inner clarity, calm reactive emotions, and neutralize stress. This creates an inner state called coherence. With practice, you’ll feel calmer, more centered and focused – and enjoy a ‘carryover effect’ into your next activity. You will access more intuitive discernment to make better decisions.”
The piece of the device pictured above that I am holding in my hand is where you power it on, and clip that part to your shirt. The smaller part will be clipped onto your earlobe. That is where the data comes from that tracks your breathing as you follow the breathing exercise on your phone.
I really enjoy using this breathing device to see how my emotional state is affecting my nervous system and it also raises my awareness of whether or not I am breathing deeply throughout my day. Here is another excerpt from their website that I really want to share, “The Inner Balance analyzes our heart rhythm, measured by Heart Rate Variability (HRV), which indicates how emotional states are affecting our nervous system. HRV offers a unique window into the quality of communication between the heart and brain, which directly impacts how we feel and perform.”
I know I want my body to function the way it is intended to, and oftentimes we don’t realize we are not really breathing well, or breathing deep or long enough.
3. Healthy Traits from the Bible
I start my day with God’s Word and I came across these lifestyle habits that can be found in the Bible. I will also link a Bible here by Candace Cameron Bure from Amazon. There are several options, designs and versions of the Bible that you can find online or in stores.
Here are some verses from Scripture that talk about good lifestyle habits:
- Proverbs 31:15: Wake up and get out of bed before dawn
- “She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family….”
- There is something really fulfilling about waking up early to start your day. I know when I do
- “She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family….”
- Joshua 1:8: Read your Bible and talk to God
- “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
- Genesis 1:29: Eat food that will nourish your body
- “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.”
- Proverbs 31:17: Move your body and exercise
- “She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.”
I always draw encouragement and inspiration from the Bible every time I read it and it never gets old! Again, if you don’t know God or have a relationship with Him yet, that’s totally fine! I would still encourage you to seek Him today because you will not be disappointed. Reading God’s Word (the Bible) is something that will always renew your mind, body and spirit, and you can learn something new every day about God and what He thinks about you. This is a really healthy habit you can start to incorporate into your life today.
4. Morning Devotionals
I have made morning devotionals a healthy habit for the last four years because starting my day with God always sets a great tone for my whole day. I really love this Jesus Calling devotional by Sarah Young because it has a devotional for every day of the year. Along with the devotional for the day, it provides 2 to 3 Bible verses to look up for that day. It is a great way to get into God’s word at the beginning of your day and to set the tone for the rest of your day, with encouragement and much needed reminders. I am not sure where you are in your journey of faith, but this devotional is really easy to start and is a healthy habit I love incorporating into my life. There is something so refreshing about being in God’s word and allowing it to reset and prepare your mind, body and spirit for your day ahead. I hope you enjoy it friends!
5. Books for Healing
This 21-day devotional called ‘Restart Your Heart, by Jentezen Franklin,’ was amazing and so encouraging to me, and not only is it good for healing from heartbreak from a romantic relationship, but also for anyone, that has hurt you, or for losses you have experienced. It is such a powerful reminder of how important it is to forgive anyone who has caused you hurt. I was really surprised to read in this devotional that holding on to unforgiveness actually will cause you physical issues, which is why God asks us to forgive. Forgiveness is actually more for you than for the person who hurt you.
Friends, I hope you enjoy these wellness habits and find yourself living a more abundant life because of them!
